 ‘The Deadly Assassin’ saw the Fourth Doctor pitted against the Master – returned after three years in a new, decrepit wraith-like form played by Peter Pratt! The President of Gallifrey is resigning, and ready to name his successor – but the Doctor is an unwanted guest at the ceremony, especially when he brings news of the President’s impending assassination… This episode was the only classic Doctor Who story to forgo a companion entirely, and introduced many aspects of Time Lord culture that would echo down the years.
